The Sewall-Belmont House is a living monument to Alice Paul, author of the Equal Rights Amendment. From this house she led the fight for its passage in Congress. It was her leadership in suffrage and equal rights activities that culminated in the designation of this house as a National Historic Landmark on December 5, 1972.
